Various arrangements of primary and secondary coils can be used to make step-up and step-down transformers.

Coils of: 55, 110, 440 and 880 turns

The photo shows a primary of 110 turns and a secondary of 880 turns.  The primary voltage is 5 VAC and the secondary voltage is 41 VAC: a step-up ratio of approximately eight, the coil turns ratio.
