A pair of coils are suspended from a stand.  Approximately 20 VDC are applied to both coils.  If the switch is thrown one direction, current flows in the same direction in both coils, and they attract each other.  If the switch is thrown in the other direction, current flows in opposite directions, and the coils repel each other.
